Zimbabwe’s capitulation - A sad day for cricket
The fashion in which the West Indies defeated Zimbabwe doesnt actually speak about the strength of their team. Sadly it is the weakness of Zimbabwean side that comes to our mind. A few years back under the captainship of Andy Flower, playing along side his brother Greame and Heath Streak, Zimbabwe had become a formidable side. All this came to an end with the retirement of Andy Flower in 2002 due to the prevailing political conditions. Slowly the other white players started to leave the team as they were not sure of their place in the team due to the "quota" system. The present team has 3 Test players , Taylor with 10, Chigumbara with 6 and Utseya with 1 test - and the rest are youngsters with little or no experience at all. It is sad to see such rapid decline in such a short period. South Africa should take a cue from Zimbabawe and make sure that politics and racism is kept out of cricket otherwise they can also meet the same fate. Pietersen and Strauss, both playing for England, were born in South Africa. Pieterson left South Africa because he felt that the colour quota system might jeopardise his chances of playing for the national side. If this continues the International Cricket will be left with fewer competietive teams and this will be disastrous for World Crciket.
