Younis: The dummy captain returns.
If you thought that team management, cricket control board and players all work together in haromony for each country, the recent Younis debacle would have proved you completely wrong. After Inzamam's ban following the controversial ball tampering issue, Younis was declared as captain of the pakistan team for the Champions trophy. Two days before the tournament, Younis declined the offer refusing to be a dummy captain. "Dummy" to whom was the first question in my mind? As a captain you are entitled to certain calls, but i am not sure if a captain does get complete autonomy for cricketing decisions? after all you don't want to be held solely responsible for a team sport like cricket. The PCB was clearly unhappy with the decision, chaos set in, Sharayar resigned. They chose Mohd Yousuf instead to lead the team. Both these players are senior to the team and have provided Pakistan with numerous matchi-wining middle order partnerships and boast a impressive batting record. Guess what? The decision was again reverted with Younis agreeing to lead the side the second time around ? what happened ? Did he finally accept the "dummy" role or was he promised eternal control of the team ?
What do you think ?
